The College Now STEM Research Academy at Lehman College is a two-part program designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop the essential skills to be strong scientific thinkers by engaging in authentic enquiry based research activities. The first component of the program is a high school credit scientific investigative course (DNA Detectives) offered during the spring semester, and the second component is a six week college credit course (BIO189, 1 credit) that meets during the summer, in which students work in research labs under the supervision and mentorship of Lehman College faculty and their graduate students.

The programs are structured to benefit teens as instructors use several key best practices to guide their program flow. The program offers a variety of industry-specific, entry-level professional experiences with external organizations and companies to teens who are at least 16 years old. Teens who successfully complete the program requirements receive a monetary stipend. The program eligibility requirements include being a resident of Chicago, being 14 years old by the first day of the program, and meeting the specific age requirements for internships and assistantships.

The College of Saint Mary offers Summer Academy Programs for young women of color in grades ten through twelve. Participants will receive a $500 scholarship to CSM, engage with a STEAM curriculum, meet professional women in the community, participate in cultural experiences, and reside in the residence halls. The academies also provide an opportunity to meet new friends and learn about the process of selecting and applying to colleges. The program runs for one week for each grade level and has a residential component. Space is limited to 30 participants for each week, and there is a $25 registration fee that can be waived. Applicants are required to complete an online application, submit a recent high school transcript, and write a 200-500 words essay about themselves and their interest in participating in the academies.
The Strong Future Las Vegas Youth Employment Program is an initiative that aims to provide workforce readiness training and employment to young people in Las Vegas. The program offers a seven-session course that covers important skills like resume writing, time management, interview techniques, ethics, and professionalism. After completing the training, youth are matched with summer or after-school jobs and are supported by adult advisors to encourage commitment to both work and school responsibilities. Employers can also hire or sponsor youth to develop their workforce and support real-life experiential learning. The program is designed to help youth build new and valuable skills and connect them to the labor force while also supporting the local economy in Las Vegas.

The North Carolina Senate Page Program allows high school students in tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade to get a hands-on experience in the legislative process of the state. Hired pages observe how laws are made and assist senators and staff members during the legislative session while working on the Senate Chamber floor. They participate in daily sessions, committee meetings, and perform duties that include delivering messages and materials within the legislative complex, answering phones in senators’ offices, passing out documents and running errands. The selection process is competitive, and senators are allotted a number of students they can sponsor each session. Senate pages must be sponsored by a member of the North Carolina Senate, in good academic standing, and submit their application to their senator. The program runs for several weeks throughout the year, and each page receives a stipend of $150 per week to cover expenses.
