About the role
The North Carolina Senate Page Program allows high school students in tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade to get a hands-on experience in the legislative process of the state. Hired pages observe how laws are made and assist senators and staff members during the legislative session while working on the Senate Chamber floor. They participate in daily sessions, committee meetings, and perform duties that include delivering messages and materials within the legislative complex, answering phones in senators’ offices, passing out documents and running errands. The selection process is competitive, and senators are allotted a number of students they can sponsor each session. Senate pages must be sponsored by a member of the North Carolina Senate, in good academic standing, and submit their application to their senator. The program runs for several weeks throughout the year, and each page receives a stipend of $150 per week to cover expenses.
