The High School Alliance Internship Program is a competitive, one-year program designed for high school juniors and seniors who aspire to pursue careers in medicine, nursing, or other healthcare fields. The program offers various courses during the fall and spring semesters, including biology, healthcare communications, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Students are required to meet certain criteria, such as being 16 years old, having a grade of "B" or above in Algebra, Biology, and a physical science course, and being enrolled in a participating high school for the entire school year. The program only accepts 65 students each year, making admission highly competitive. Students who meet these criteria have to complete an in-person interview and obtain parent/guardian permission. There is also uBEATS, an online program for those who do not meet the eligibility of High School Alliance.
The Ranger Conservation Corps is a great urban environmental internship for high school students who are interested in the natural world or environmental issues. Our Ranger Conservation Corps interns gain experience while working with the Urban Park Rangers on environmental restoration in natural areas in our flagship parks.
The LA County Department of Public Health offers two ambassador programs: Parent and Student. These programs aim to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other emerging viruses by training community members to become ambassadors for public health. The virtual training sessions, which are offered in both English and Spanish, cover topics such as COVID-19 and emergent virus prevention and mitigation, mental health and self-care support, access to vaccinations, wellness clinics, virtual mindfulness applications, and youth substance abuse prevention. By becoming certified ambassadors, community members can share the knowledge and resources they've gained with their peers to promote community health and wellness.
The NASA Internships provided by the Michigan Space Grant Consortium offer hands-on opportunities for high school, undergraduates, graduates, and educators to gain unique NASA-related research and operational experiences. Participants can engage in scientific or engineering research, development, and operations activities or explore non-technical internship opportunities to engage in professional activities that support NASA's business and administrative processes. The internships are mentor-directed with an aim for degree-related, real-time completions to enhance and increase participants' professional capabilities and clarify their long-term career goals. The STEM Research Academy is a two‐semester program, consisting of a spring pre‐college science course and the opportunity to conduct hands-on research with CUNY faculty members in a summer research experience. The Academy is designed to provide students with an opportunity to build essential literacy and numeracy skills by engaging in ‘authentic inquiry’ activities.
The Summer Earn & Learn Program is a statewide initiative designed to help students with disabilities between the ages of 14 and 22, gain work readiness training and paid work experience. The program is offered by Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas in partnership with Texas Workforce Commission-Vocational Rehabilitation Services. It includes employability skills training, paid work experience, and reasonable accommodations required by the students, which are provided by participating employers who receive an orientation prior to placement. The program aims to create pathways to employment, and thus far, more than 5,000 students statewide (769 within the WSNCT service area) have participated in the Summer Earn & Learn program and worked in various positions. Participating students must have an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan, and eligible employers can express their interest in participating in the program by completing the Employer Interest Form.
The Teen Arts Council program at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston is designed for Boston-area high school students to engage with art, history, and culture while developing professional skills like team-building and workplace engagement. Participants will learn about potential career paths and professional opportunities while advising the MFA on engagement strategies for local teens. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors in Boston Public Schools or Boston. The TAC program includes tours, workshops, performances, and a culminating Teen Night social event. Several foundations support the program and is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis.
The Junior Conservation Technician (JCT) Program is a paid opportunity ($15/hour) for teens ages 14-18 to gain a deeper understanding of conservation action through hands-on experiences in the field at the Green Mountain Audubon Center.
