The Office of Workforce Development Student Training Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides young people from the Boston public school system with professional experience in health care. The program is offered both as an academic-year commitment and a summer opportunity, during which participating students intern in a hospital department aligned with their interests and experiences. Through the program, students gain valuable professional and personal skills, while developing positive community relationships through mentorship, student retreats, and college tours. These are paid opportunities, and graduating seniors are also eligible to apply for scholarship funding. The program has both summer and academic year commitments with specific requirements. Eligible students include those with a minimum GPA of 2.0, good attendance records, and affiliation with selected Boston schools or organizations. The program has received positive feedback from both students and supervisors.

The Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency Internship Program offers high school seniors a non-paid work experience for 6-10 hours per week with a local business or agency related to their career pathway. The program has had over 150 internship sites host students in the past few years, and students receive high school credit for successfully completing the Work-Based Learning Experience. The internship is a great way to gain real-world experience, network with influential people, and help decide a college major. Students are expected to follow both the internship and business site attendance rules and policies and are responsible for their own transportation to and from the training site. To apply, students must complete an application, resume, and receive a recommendation from their school counselor. The internship program coordinator and the business or agency will then interview the student.
Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) is an opportunity for high school students residing or studying in California’s 28th Congressional District to highlight and discuss important issues that face our youth. Students will work directly with staff and a diverse group of leaders from our community to collaborate and identify how the federal government can help the community.

The program is hosted by the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab, where students have the opportunity to work with global networking companies such as Cisco, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, and Motorola. The interns are exposed to computer science, electrical engineering, and computer engineering disciplines offered by the University of New Hampshire. The program provides a unique hands-on experience, visits to high-tech corporations, and an opportunity to work one-on-one with UNH-IOL engineers. The internship program is ideal for students entering their senior year of high school who are interested in computer networking, computer programming, and exploring career opportunities in STEM fields.
