About the role
The Mining and Explosives Camp is a free week-long program designed for high school juniors and seniors interested in learning about the science behind explosives and how engineers use them to extract minerals, shape landscapes, and even create sculptures like Crazy Horse and his horse head from a mountainside. Students who attend the program will engage in hands-on activities, field trips, and workshops that teach them the fundamentals of explosives, including the chemistry behind detonations and how to calculate the size and shape of blasting patterns.
