The California State Parks Student Employment Program provides high school, college, and graduate students with opportunities to explore future career paths, develop professional skills, and earn money while serving in several roles. These roles include youth aides, student assistants (for undergraduates), and graduate student assistants. Many of these positions do not require previous work experience. Student assistants may also be able to earn credit towards graduation. This hybrid course works with a cross section of different laboratories and clinical departments within the Mount Sinai Health System. The Base Pair internship program was founded in 1992 as a biomedical research mentorship program that paired University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) faculty with high school students and educators from the Jackson Public School District (JPSD). This program now offers JPSD students a bona fide biomedical research experience under the guidance of UMMC faculty researchers. Additionally, Base Pair has generated two corollary programs, the Rural Biomedical Initiative (RBI) which offers a template for inquiry-based, hands-on curricula for rural high schools, and the Student Oriented Academic Research (SOAR) which is a two-year science curriculum focused on locally-generated student research and adaptable to individual school resources. Base Pair has made a significant and positive impact on science education, not only locally, but throughout Mississippi and the southeastern United States as well.

The Haggerty Scholars Program seeks to provide high school juniors with an opportunity to engage with and within Oregon’s legal and civic community. Students attending underserved schools, or who are members of historically underrepresented communities, are especially encouraged to apply.
Students who are selected for the program work one-on-one with an attorney mentor over the course of the 2023 – 2024 school year. In the past, mentors have helped students with college essays, taken students to observe courtroom proceedings, and provided general networking assistance on topics of the students’ interests.
