There’s more than one way to get into the STE(A)M industry — the RISE Teen program aims to show students that the possibilities are endless. Through a series of drop-in and structured sessions, Griffin Museum of Science and Industry offers students a first-hand look at conventional and unconventional STE(A)M pathways and careers in a fun and supportive environment. The program includes hands-on activities, real-world experiences and opportunities to build self-confidence, self-awareness and self-efficacy.
Through our job shadow program, LES offers high-school students the opportunity to experience what it’s like working in the energy industry inside one of the nation’s leading utilities. You can see the work going into challenging projects and learn from the best.
Participants in this program receive training in a translational research lab and build valuable skills as they work on active research projects led by faculty mentors. The program consists of a professional development component that teaches students about college selection, scholarship applications, and scientific writing.
Interns are also provided with networking events, guest speaker presentations, and activities like attending sporting events. The program culminates in a presentation in which students showcase the findings of their research at a symposium in front of some of Houston Methodist’s leading scientists.

In this visual storytelling course for high school students, Fellows receive more than 1,000 hours of immersive, college-level training over 30 months. Courses cover both the art and business of cinematic storytelling and production training while preparing and guiding Fellows to advance their education at top universities.
Internship participants will have the opportunity to join in the day-to-day activities of a historic site, including:
- research life and artifacts of the 19th century

Butterfly Garden Ambassador volunteers will join a team helping visitors to Franklin Park Zoo’s Butterfly Hollow exhibit to learn about butterflies and other pollinator insects and the plants they depend on. In addition to helping out guests, these volunteers will also have opportunities to assist our Horticulture and Animal Care staff in maintaining the Butterfly Hollow exhibit and the surrounding pollinator gardens.

The Data Science Institute Summer Lab program (launched in 2018 as the Data & Computing Summer Lab) is an immersive 10-week paid summer research program at the University of Chicago. In the program, high school and undergraduate students are paired with a data science mentor in various domains, including: computer science, data science, social science, climate and energy policy, public policy, materials science, and biomedical research.
The Field Biology Internship gives students the opportunity to gain STEM skills through hands-on fieldwork and to learn more about local ecosystems and life. Students will build a foundation in research and experiment design while visiting various ecosystems in Alley Pond Park and other parts of Queens, NYC.
