About the role
The Junior Curators program is an internship opportunity for students in grades 9-12 who are passionate about conservation, animal care, and field biology. Participants work alongside peers who share their interests to directly support the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' conservation efforts through educational programs, field experiences, and the care of the Museum's live animal collection. The program runs from September to April and includes a required monthly meeting with Living Collections staff, as well as two monthly group meetings with guest scientists, researchers, and curators. Optional trips, field experiences, and service projects across North Carolina and beyond are available, as well as an annual group retreat and graduation event. The program has a fee of $75 per year, which covers snacks for meetings, a Junior Curator t-shirt, and program equipment. Scholarships are also available. The application deadline is March 20, and the program is highly competitive.
