About the role
The Adler Planetarium offers various opportunities for teenagers to participate in STEAM-based programs that aim at providing an environment for personal growth and scientific experimentation. Programs include Far Horizons Teens, a workshop series that introduces high school students to electronic circuitry, computer programming, structural design, and teamwork while addressing the problem of light pollution. The Summer Internship Program places high school students in professional museum roles. Mission Near Space, a summer camp program where teens become part of a unique team of engineers and astronomers tasked with launching a scientific payload sent to the stratosphere aboard a high altitude balloon. The Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is a Teen advocacy and leadership development opportunity for young people with an interest in centering “youth voice” within the museum community. Finally, the Youth Organization for Lights Out (YOLO) is an after-school program focused on hands-on STEAM learning and environmental justice with a particular interest in light pollution, held in partnership with Enlace Chicago.
