About the role
The Research Science Institute (RSI) is an intensive summer science and engineering program held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for high school juniors. It is the first cost-free program that combines on-campus coursework in scientific theory with off-campus work in science and technology research. During the program, participants experience the entire research cycle, including reading the most current literature in their field, drafting and executing a detailed research plan, and delivering conference-style oral and written reports on their findings. The program consists of a week of intensive STEM classes with accomplished professors and a five-week research internship where students conduct individual projects under the guidance of experienced scientists and researchers. The program culminates with students preparing written and oral presentations on their research projects during the final week of the program. Overall, RSI provides a unique opportunity for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in science and technology to gain valuable research experience and explore their field of interest.
