About the role
The Los Angeles Public Library offers several opportunities for teens to get involved and volunteer at their local library. The Teen Council is open to ages 11-19 and involves working with the librarian and peers on tasks such as suggesting book purchases or planning library programs. Additionally, joining the Teen Council allows for the opportunity to participate in a Teens Leading Change project that aims to create positive change in the community. Teen Volunteers, ages 14-19, can assist librarians with organizing the teen area, creating library displays, and serving as homework helpers or summer reading assistants. Those who participate in any of these programs will earn community service hours, and can gain valuable skills such as leadership, critical thinking, and civic engagement.
