About the role
The Legacy Youth Leadership Program (LYLP) is a training and internship initiative offered by the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) to high school students. The program aims to promote confidence, character, community involvement, and leadership by engaging students in a series of workshops, public programs, and college visits. LYLP participants attend 12 weekly workshops that focus on BCRI's permanent galleries, archival holdings, and public programs in African American history, culture, and leadership development. After completing the program, students serve as Docents at BCRI and continue to volunteer throughout their high school tenure. The LYLP program is designed to prepare students to become lifelong learners, productive citizens, and community leaders.
